Il detto essere come il prezzemolo indica come sia diffusa questa erba aromatica, immancabile in molte ricette e dall'aroma inconfondibile.
Del prezzemolo si consumano le foglie e gli steli teneri, freschi, aggiunti a pesce e frutti di mare, funghi, carne rossa e bianca, patate, frittate, condimenti per pasta e torte salate.

Un trito di prezzemolo direttamente sul piatto di portata fumante arricchisce piatti di pasta e risotti ai frutti di mare. È ottimo aggiunto a vinaigrette per condire diversi tipi di insalata, e all'impasto di polpette, frittate e torte salate.
Il prezzemolo si accosta a numerose altre erbe, e crea una combinazione ben nota con l'aglio, anzi sembra che il prezzemolo possa mitigare l'effetto dell'aglio sull'alito.
Ha proprietà depuranti e stimolanti l'appetito.

Il prezzemolo riccio ha aroma simile al prezzemolo, e l'aspetto decorativo delle sue foglie arricciate lo rende molto adatto a guarnire piatti di pasta, zuppe, tartine e altri piatti.
