Tutte le varietà di menta (genere Mentha) sono caratterizzate dall'aroma fresco e gradevole, e vengono aggiunte a piatti sia dolci che salati, nella cucina di diverse culture: the, torte, gelatine, omelette, zuppe, aceti aromatici, verdure.
Le foglie della menta si possono consumare fresche, o possono essere facilmente essiccate o surgelate.

Usata soprattutto in tisane o ricette di agrodolce, la menta aggiunge un sapore fresco a insalate o fritture a base di verdure. È particolarmente adatta per mitigare l'aroma molto forte di certe pietanze, come la carne di agnello e montone o le fave.
Un accostamento particolarmente consigliato è la menta e il cioccolato: alcune foglie di menta tritate aggiunte a ricette al cioccolato vi daranno una dimensione completamente nuova.
